Basic situations
Ichthyological Society of Hong Kong (ISHK) is a non-profit academic organization registered in Hong Kong on 1 September 2008, which promotes circulation data and information related to fishes (ichthyology).
With leadership by Mr. Dee-hwa CHONG and collaboration with people from various fields of the community, CHONG's idea is now finally materialized after more than two decades of conception. ISHK aims to become an academic platform for scholars from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, such that they could exchange experiences and knowledge about ichthyology, as well as introducing and promoting the knowledge widely and systematically to scholars and the public in Hong Kong.
Since the establishment from year 2008, ISHK has actively promoted ichthyology education to the public, including workshops, guided-tours to Hong Kong streams, composing serialized articles "Fish Weekly" for newspapers, and so on. In the future, ISHK will also work on academic research and discussions about fishes, as well as hosting exhibition facilities (such as aquarium), popularization courses (workshop) for public, including provision of academic support (exhibitions and lectures) to educational institutions.
ISHK is positively looking forward to enhancement of local ichthyological research and the popularization of the ichthyological knowledge. In addition, we will also work on promoting proper conservation concept to the nature and wildlife, thus encouraging the public, especially teenagers, to feel and take regard of the nature.
